Itinerary
Day 1 | Feb 14 | Arrive to Death Valley
Hiking Mileage: 5 miles
The retreat begins with an early morning 7:30am pick up from Las Vegas (overnight stay at Tuscany Inn and Suites 2.5 miles from airport is recommended). During our two and a half hour drive we will embark across the Mojave Desert and gaze upon the vast and arid landscape. As we enter into the National Park, views of the jaw-dropping Badlands Basin will appear. The colorful clay and mudstone badlands covered by volcanic metals is a popular sight. We will walk to the top of Zabriskie Point to soak in the initial beauty and towering Panamint Mountains.
From there, we will stop quickly at the Furnace Creek Visitor center before heading to the trailhead of Golden Canyon and Gower Gulch. This classic hiking trail will take up deep into the Badlands amongst the Amargosa Mountains. We will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the incredible landscape.
Post lunch, we will hike down into the water-carved Gower Gulch where the land splits us out onto the edge of Death Valley. Throughout the duration of the hike, your highly knowledgeable guide will share many historical points of interest to enhance the experience of traveling back in time.
Day 2 | Feb 15 | Mesquite Sand Dunes
Hiking Mileage: 4-5 miles
Today’s hike will start with us driving west past the Devil’s Cornfield and stop for a serene hike on the renowned Mesquite Sand Dunes, offering a quiet oasis for us to replenish after yesterday’s adventure. From the top of the dunes, we will take in these heart-stirring views with several mountain ranges and peaceful sounds of nature. A historical appreciation will engulf your senses as you envision what the valley looked like when it was a glaciated lake during a time of cooler temperatures and wet Pleistocene.
After the dunes, we will drive further west to visit what many have called “a miracle in the desert,” Darwin Falls. Certainly, one of the most astonishing sights in Death Valley National Park. The two-mile hike to the spring-fed waterfall leaves most who see it up close in personal speechless, as it rushes through one of the driest places on earth.
Day 3 | Feb 16 | Hike the Amargosa Range
Hiking Mileage: 4 – 7 Miles
Today’s hike through Death Valley, we will immerse ourselves in several mountain canyons across the Amargosa Range: Desolation Canyon, Sidewinder Canyon, Kaleidoscope Canyon, and Virgin Spring Wash. Each historical place of significance for wildlife offers its own unique taste for the divine beauty within a pure, naturalistic environment.
After lunch, we will continue to hike towards Dante’s View to look out at the expansive vista of Death Valley. This is the perfect opportunity to soak in this incredible journey and reflect on our time here.
Day 4 | Feb 17 | Badwater Basin
Today’s hike will incorporate a hike at Badwater Basin. Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North America -282 below sea level. We will then head back to Vegas. Plan on an overnight stay at Tuscany Inn or departure flight same evening after 7pm.
